A special memorial service for deceased parents.

2018. Digital painting

In Korea, there is a special memorial service for late parents.
It refers to wearing mourning clothes for three years while holding a Confucian ceremony after the death of parents.
The origin of this ritual stems from the fact that he had been in the arms of his parents for three years before he was born.
Offspring build a cabin next to their parents' graves and mourn their late parents for three years.
In Korea, this ritual is called "Samnyeonsang."
This ritual should protect the graves of parents without doing anything for three years.
It is not easy to do because he cannot engage in economic activities for three years.
Therefore, not all descendants hold this memorial service.
It is a culture that has disappeared a lot in modern times.
This painting shows mourning in front of parents' graves in funeral clothes even on snowy days.

This book is called "Cats' Journey to Chosun Dynasty" which I published.
It is an historical illustration book that shows the Chosun Dynasty with cute cats as the main characters.
The main characters in this book are actually real stray cats living in my neighborhood.
After published, I had two exhibitions named "The Nyang" with illustrations of this book.
