Jumak
2018. Digital painting
In old Korean society, a Jumak was a kind of tavern or inn that served alcoholic beverages and food and also provided lodging to travellers. It was also called jusa, juga, or jupo. While it is unknown when jumak first came into existence, historical documents show that a kisaeng (female entertainer), Cheon-gwan, operated one.
This painting shows eating Korean traditional liquor Makgeolli with meals at the jumak.
This book is called "Cats' Journey to Chosun Dynasty" which I published.
It is an historical illustration book that shows the Chosun Dynasty with cute cats as the main characters.
The main characters in this book are actually real stray cats living in my neighborhood.
After published, I had two exhibitions named "The Nyang" with illustrations of this book.
